Middle Atlas - Departing from Fez, the journey begins with an ascent through Ifrane, a winter ski resort built by the French in the 1930s to resemble a Swiss village. The tour includes a visit to the cedar forests in Azrou, where monkeys can be seen, and a drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains. The day is spent winding through beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages while crossing the Atlas Mountains, eventually descending towards the Sahara Desert. Midway, there is a stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, known for its fossils and rocks. The journey continues towards Merzouga, with a stop to enjoy panoramic views of the vast palm tree oasis. In Rissani, a 4x4 vehicle takes you to the desert, arriving in Merzouga around 5 PM. After a rest, a guide and camels will be ready for a trek across the sandy dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy the stunning sunset on camelback, and after two hours, reach the desert camp to spend the night in a Berber tent. At the desert shelter, camels are hobbled, and mint tea is served. After dinner, enjoy stargazing. Overnight in the Berber tent.
Merzouga/Tinghir/Gorges or Ouarzazate
Tinghir - Following a delightful breakfast, the journey to Ouarzazate begins, traveling the rugged road of a thousand Kasbahs, which rise like turreted sand castles along this ancient caravan trading route. This area has been a popular location for Hollywood films such as “The Last Temptation of Christ,” “Jewel of the Nile,” and “Hideous Kinky.” The central region is one of Morocco’s most exciting and romantic destinations, nestled along rich river valleys, palm groves, and vibrant mud-brick homes under the blue desert sky. A stop for lunch and a walk in Todra Gorge is included, followed by travel through the Dades Valley past dramatic escarpments. Dinner and overnight stay are at a hotel in the Gorges or in Ouarzazate.
