- Profitis Ilias - The tour commences with a visit to the island’s highest point (567 meters), situated between Pyrgos and Kamari. The mountain, named Profitis Ilias (Prophet Elijah), derives its name from the Monastery at its summit. From this elevated position, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire island, from the patchwork of agricultural plains to the hilltop village of Oia. The Monastery, constructed in 1712, has played a significant role in Santorini’s history, serving as an influential intellectual and patriotic center.
- Pyrgos - The next stop is the charming village of Pyrgos, perched atop a hill, which served as the island’s capital until the early 1800s. The village features traditional houses built around a Venetian Castle, with narrow streets that follow the hill’s contours. Pyrgos boasts around 33 churches and is a perfect example of Cycladic Architecture: as one ascends from the square to the castle, the stone houses become more densely packed, and the maze of narrow vaulted lanes becomes more intricate. Visitors will have ample time to explore the village.
- Firostefani - Located to the north of Fira, Firostefani offers a spectacular view of Santorini, providing a unique perspective of the volcano. The Church of the Three Bells in Fira is one of the most famous, photogenic, and frequently photographed Greek Catholic churches on the island. Also known as the Church of the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it was originally the site of two cave churches in the mid-17th century, which were destroyed due to the cliff’s gradual erosion. The current church was built in 1757 and has been reconstructed several times, notably after the 1956 earthquake. Its picturesque location, with the dome and bell tower overlooking the caldera, makes it one of the most photographed sites not only in Santorini but throughout Greece.
- Oia - Finally, the tour concludes in Oia, a scenic village on the northwest edge of Santorini, built along the northern edge of the Caldera at an elevation of 70 to 100 meters. Renowned worldwide for its serene atmosphere and stunning views, Oia is often depicted on postcards, showcasing the iconic white and blue church against the deep blue Aegean Sea. This exquisite small town is ideal for those seeking tranquility, with its skillfully constructed houses, paths, and churches on the island’s northern part.
