Private Tour of the Academia - We learned so much with our guide. Details we never would have known about. Went to the front of the line and she was able to maneuver us around all the tours inside. She also used her I Pad to help educate us about Michelangelo and David. She was so knowledgeable and passionate. So worth it!

We weren’t sure what to... - We weren’t sure what to expect from a guided tour of the Accademia Gallery (home of Michelangelo’s David), but now we can't imagine doing it any other way. Skipping the long line was a great perk, but the real magic came from our guide, Irina. As an art history major, her passion and knowledge were infectious—she brought Michelangelo’s work and life to life in a way that was engaging, informative, and incredibly memorable. We learned so much more than we ever would have wandering through on our own, especially about the history of David—from his creation to the extraordinary lengths taken to protect him over the centuries. He's been through quite a lot, and knowing the history makes you appreciate the masterpiece even more! And while there were no pop quizzes on this tour, we actually did ace a quiz question on another tour thanks to Irina’s insights about Michelangelo studying anatomy in the crypt 😄 Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Florence. It’s a truly enriching experience you won’t forget.

David was great - and so was Irina! - I think a visit to see David is automatically going to be a special occasion, but having Irina as guide took it to the next level again. We arrived at the meeting point a little early, so did Irina, and before we knew it ... we were in! Obviously David was magnificent! Irina took us to all sides (front and back, left and right), pointing out various symbolic features and explaining Michelangelo's sculpture techniques. Irina was very good at navigating the crowd, spotting gaps and constantly improving our position, and she took some lovely photos of us with David. I should also mention that we also saw some other sculptures of Michelangelo's that were unfinished for various reasons, but also were instructive of his methods. I mentioned the crowd earlier, but really in the Academy it was not too bad compared to other popular attractions, due to the need to control vibrations around David. The huge crowd outside is another matter, so the skip the queue with expert guide was a good decision, and is highly recommended.
