- Gallerie Degli Uffizi - Explore the Uffizi Gallery with a knowledgeable local guide and delve into the captivating history of one of the world’s most significant museums.
Start with the tale of the building itself, initially the site of Florence’s administrative offices, and discover how the Medici family transformed it into a repository of Renaissance masterpieces. View the portrait of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, who generously donated the entire Medici collection to the city.
As you ascend the grand staircase, your guide will reveal the gallery’s secrets, legends, and architectural wonders. Admire works by Giotto, Cimabue, and Duccio, then be awed by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, da Vinci’s Annunciation, and Michelangelo’s sole panel painting.
With stories that animate each piece, this two-hour tour covers the highlights without overwhelming, leaving you free to explore further on your own afterward.
- Opera del Duomo Museum - Later, visit the magnificent Duomo Museum in Florence. The museum boasts over 700 Middle-Age and Renaissance masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s Pietà Bandini. It also features incredible works like the Baptistery gates, Donatello’s sculptures, and the original dome’s wooden scaffoldings. The guide will also highlight some of the most famous artworks by Michelangelo and Donatello.
As your tour concludes, your guide will escort you to the entrance of the Cupola Dome, a showstopper, but the only way to see the inside of the dome up close and enjoy the extraordinary view of Florence is to climb its 463 steps (there is no elevator).
-
The Baptistery of St. John - Discover the key landmarks on this comprehensive tour of the Duomo Complex in Florence. This tour allows you to fully explore all elements of the Duomo Complex.
Once you’ve met with the guide, they will take you on a tour of the Piazza del Duomo and explain the fascinating religious center. After viewing the Duomo from all sides of the square, you will access the octagonal Baptistery of St. John in Florence. The guide will show you that the Baptistery is renowned for its magnificent golden mosaic ceiling and striking bronze doors famously called the Gates of Paradise. -
Piazza del Duomo - The Cupola, designed and built by Filippo Brunelleschi, has narrow corridors for climbing up (and down). This is because the workmen who built the cathedral for maintenance never anticipated it being open to the public.
On the dome’s interior, you can admire Giorgio Vasari’s frescoes of the Last Judgment (1572-9) up close with an engaging explanation of the frescoes on your way to the top. Look down, and at the base, just above the drum, you’ll see that Baccio D’Angelo began adding a balcony in 1507, and how one of the eight sides was left unfinished, with the other seven sides remaining rough brick to this day!
Once you reach the top of the Cupola, you will be captivated by the panoramic view of Florence city before your eyes.
After visiting the Cupola with your pre-reserved timed ticket, you have the opportunity to also visit the interior of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Santa Reparata, and climb Giotto’s Bell Tower at your own pace and time.
