It houses a collection of priceless works, particularly from the Italian Renaissance. The Uffizi complex was initiated by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 for Cosimo I de’ Medici to accommodate the offices of the Florentine magistrates, hence the name uffizi, “offices.”
