• Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore - The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, commonly known as the Florence Duomo, serves as the spiritual center of the city and is a stunning example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Construction began in 1296 and spanned over 140 years, culminating in the renowned Brunelleschi’s Dome. The cathedral’s beautifully adorned façade, crafted from white, green, and pink marble, is a prominent feature of Florence’s skyline. Inside, visitors can marvel at remarkable frescoes, including Vasari’s Last Judgment beneath the dome. • Campanile di Giotto - Giotto’s Bell Tower, located next to Florence’s Cathedral, is a prime example of Gothic architecture in Italy. Designed by Giotto di Bondone in 1334, the 84-meter-high tower is lavishly decorated with colorful marble, sculptural panels, and statues. Although Giotto passed away before its completion, the project was continued by Andrea Pisano and later by Francesco Talenti. Visitors can ascend 414 steps to the top for one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Florence, offering a unique perspective of Brunelleschi’s Dome. Elegant and harmonious, the tower showcases Florence’s artistic brilliance during the 14th century.
• Battistero di San Giovanni - The Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of Florence’s oldest and most significant religious structures, dating back to the 11th century. Its octagonal design, white and green marble façade, and golden mosaic ceiling make it a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. The baptistery is renowned for its three sets of bronze doors, particularly the “Gates of Paradise” by Lorenzo Ghiberti, which transformed Renaissance sculpture. Inside, visitors can admire exquisite mosaics depicting the Last Judgment and biblical scenes. For centuries, this was the site where Florentines — including Dante Alighieri — were baptized. Please note that the mosaics of the Baptistery are currently undergoing restoration.
• Crypt of Santa Reparata - The remnants of the ancient Basilica of Santa Reparata are accessible to the public on an archaeological trail that meanders beneath the cathedral’s floor. Here, visitors can appreciate valuable Paleo-Christian mosaics and elegant tombstones.
• Museo dell’Opera del Duomo - The Opera del Duomo Museum features a collection of over 700 masterpieces from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, including Michelangelo’s Pietà Bandini, Giotto’s Madonna of All Saints, and Lorenzo Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise.
