- Island of Flores - Prepare for a day filled with adventure and nature! Grab your backpack and get ready for a fun-filled day. The journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel lobby on the Island of Flores. Relax and enjoy a 30-minute ride to the community of La Cobanerita.
- Tienda La Cobanerita - There are both long and short tours available to explore the Cobanerita Caves. The choice between the two will depend on the group’s physical condition and the expert recommendation of the local guide.
Upon arrival at La Cobanerita, a 400-meter walk leads to the first cave, “Cueva de las Pinturas” or the Cave of the Paintings. This cave is named for its ancient red, black, and yellow paintings, dating back centuries. These caves are considered sacred by the native Mayan communities and are believed to be entrances to the underworld.
- Tienda La Cobanerita - OWL CAVE: Next, we proceed to the following cave. This area features a set of six caves known as “Cuevas de la Cobanerita.” They include Cueva de las Pinturas, Cueva del Tecolote, Cueva del Mono, and Cuevas del Sapo, translated as the Cave of the Paintings, the Owl Cave, the Monkey Cave, and the Toad Cave.
Each cave is named after something unique within it, such as ancient Mayan paintings, resident owls, a rock formation resembling a monkey, and a toad figure.
Some cave sections are narrow, so it’s advisable to avoid large backpacks and wear comfortable clothing, like jeans, to prevent scraping if bending is necessary.
This visit includes two caves: The Paintings Cave and the Owl Cave, followed by a visit to a viewpoint 100 meters above Petén Itza Lake. Have your camera ready and savor every moment!
- San Benito - After exploring the caves and viewpoint, a local meal awaits, surrounded by nature, forest, and fresh air. It’s a perfect opportunity to recharge before heading to the next magical destination, The Beach of El Chechenal.
- Playa CHECHENAL Peten - To reach this stunning beach, a short private boat ride is required. Enjoy the breeze, wonderful weather, and sunshine along the way.
El Chechenal Beach is renowned for its turquoise waters and white sand. It’s an ecological haven with numerous photo opportunities. If swimming is your preference, take a refreshing dip under the beautiful sunlight. You might even spot small fish swimming nearby.
With the beach enveloped by nature, the sounds of howler monkeys may accompany your visit, creating a delightful experience. This is the perfect conclusion to a wonderful day. Enjoy!
