- Tikal - Upon arrival in Tikal, embark on a 4-hour guided walk to explore the highlights of the magnificent City of Tikal. Stroll along ancient Mayan paths and roads, while observing a variety of birds and animals up close.
The Tikal archaeological site boasts around 5,000 pre-Hispanic structures over an area of approximately 16 km², with only 15% restored and open for exploration. The entire Tikal area spans about 576 km², much of which remains uncleared, unmapped, and unexcavated.
- Great Plaza - At the Grand Plaza, you will see the Temple of the Great Jaguar, also known as Temple I, a symbol of Guatemala, standing 45 meters tall. Beneath this temple, the richest burial in Guatemala was discovered, containing 16 pounds of jade, sea shells, carved human bones, and more.
Opposite is Temple Number II, or Temple of Masks, featuring a wooden staircase for a unique view of the plaza, standing 38 meters high.
To the north, explore 16 religious or ceremonial temples, including a well-preserved giant mask of Chaac, the God of Rain, which is original.
To the south, elongated buildings believed to be royal residences, constructed entirely of limestone, offer stunning views from 1 to 5 floors.
- Tikal Temple III - The last major structure built in Tikal around 810 AD, featuring two chambers on top, perfectly aligned with Temple I for equinoxes.
- Temple IV - Tikal’s tallest structure at 70 meters, famous for its appearance in the Star Wars film. Accessible via a zigzag wooden staircase, it offers a panoramic view of Tikal and its lush surroundings.
- Lost World - Our itinerary includes a visit to the Lost World, an essential part of Tikal, serving as the astronomical center where the Mayans accurately marked the winter and summer seasons.
The guide will explain the Lunar and Solar calendars and the tools the Mayans possibly used to observe the sky and stars. The Lost World pyramid, standing 32 meters high, provides a 360-degree panoramic view of Tikal.
