The USCGC INGHAM holds the record as the longest-serving and most decorated vessel in Coast Guard history.
It was in active service from 1936 to 1988 and is the only remaining American ship afloat that participated in the Battle of the Atlantic. It served as the command ship for several landings in the Philippines, including General Douglas MacArthur’s return to Corregidor, with him on board during the operation. It was the first allied vessel to enter Chinese waters at the end of the war. The ship received two Presidential Unit Citations for its support missions in Vietnam and was also involved in the Mariel Boatlift, during which tens of thousands of Cuban refugees sought asylum in the U.S.
Today, it stands as a National Historic Landmark and a Coast Guard National Memorial honoring Guardsmen who lost their lives in World War II and Vietnam.
The Ingham also provides one of the most stunning sunset views in Key West.
