- Brodie Castle - Nestled in the serene Moray countryside, the rose-hued Brodie Castle has been the ancestral home of the Brodie clan for over 400 years, with their family seat established here since the 12th century.
Embark on a guided tour to discover how the castle’s architecture and purpose have evolved over time. The formidable 16th-century guard chamber is complemented by a charming 17th-century wing on one side and an expansive Victorian extension on the other.
Inside, the castle boasts a splendid collection of furniture, ceramics, and artwork, including pieces by 17th-century Dutch masters. It also features an impressive library with over 6,000 volumes.
The Playful Garden at Brodie Castle offers fun for the entire family. Situated near the castle, it presents the Brodie family history in an engaging and entertaining manner.
- Findhorn - Findhorn Foundation and Eco Village. This vibrant spiritual ecovillage, known as The Park, serves as a learning resource for those interested in community living. It is beautifully set between Findhorn Bay, woodlands, dunes, and the North Sea. Stroll through the village, explore the Universal Hall, and visit the visitor centre and shop. A delightful booklet is available at the local community shop, The Phoenix, providing background information, history, a map, and a self-guided tour for £5.
- Hopeman Harbour - For those traveling along the main road between Lossiemouth and Burghead, a detour into the heart of Hopeman is highly recommended. The main street, Harbour Street, gently slopes downhill and features various shops and a post office, along with the delightful Hopeman Village Tearoom & Takeaway. At the hill’s base lies Hopeman Harbour, which was largely abandoned as a commercial fishing harbour due to partial silting in the early 1980s, prompting Hopeman-owned boats to relocate to Lossiemouth. The harbour remains a favorite for small leisure craft, and it’s fascinating to watch them navigate the uniquely complex arrangement of piers and breakwaters forming the harbour mouth.
On either side of the harbour are beaches aptly named East Beach and West Beach.
- Lossiemouth East Beach - Home to two of Scotland’s most stunning beaches, Lossiemouth is truly a hidden gem.
Visit West Beach during low tide and enjoy a walk along the flat sands towards the iconic Covesea Lighthouse. From Prospect Terrace, take in the breathtaking view of East Beach. Rest assured, a new bridge will soon be available, restoring pedestrian access to the pristine white sands of Lossiemouth East Beach.
Embrace the spirit of Lossie. Lean into the wind and breathe in the refreshing coastal air.
- Elgin Cathedral - Known as the ‘Lantern of the North,’ Elgin Cathedral is one of Scotland’s most exquisite medieval cathedrals.
This awe-inspiring structure has dominated the flat and fertile Laich of Moray since its construction, continuing to do so even after its decline during the Protestant Reformation of 1560.
Construction began in the early 1200s, resulting in a cathedral that reflects three main building phases. Even in its ruined state, the cathedral retains intricate details that speak to its development and embellishment.
Once richly carved and adorned with stained glass and painted decoration, the cathedral’s fine collection of architectural fragments hints at its former beauty, while historical records illuminate religious life at Elgin.

Johnstons of Elgin - Any true cashmere aficionado knows of the Scottish cashmere pioneers, Johnstons of Elgin. With a storied history dating back to 1797, it’s no surprise that this luxurious brand has left its mark globally. For over two centuries, Johnstons has led the wool industry. While times have changed, their craftsmanship has remained consistent. It’s not just a brand; it’s a legacy.
What began as a mill for tobacco and oatmeal has evolved into one of the most esteemed cashmere houses. Today, these expert cashmere artisans operate a weaving mill in Elgin and a knitting mill in Hawick. The Elgin mill is the last vertical woollen mill in Scotland, enduring since 1797. Moreover, Johnstons is the only remaining Scottish mill to transform raw fibre into the finished product.
