Constructed in the 3rd-4th century A.D., the villa likely belonged to Valerio Massimiano, a prominent patrician of the empire. Since 1997, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, particularly celebrated for its stunning mosaics, renowned worldwide.

The villa, featuring 48 rooms, is centered around a quadrangular peristyle accessible from the vestibule. The peristyle’s floor is entirely adorned with mosaics depicting European and African animals, while the garden boasts a large fountain with three pools, marble-clad on the exterior and mosaic-lined inside.
