Its expansive white sandy beaches attract visitors for weekend getaways or delightful seaside meals. Nazare gained international fame for the giant waves at “Praia Norte,” where American surfer Garret McNamara set a world record by riding a 29-meter wave. Visitors can pause here for photographs.
• Obidos - Obidos, an ancient Roman city, continued to thrive after the empire’s fall due to its bustling maritime trade. During the Middle Ages, a wall was constructed around it following its conquest by Portugal’s first king, Afonso I. Obidos is a quintessential example of a medieval Portuguese town.
