Setting Sail to Fujairah

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself in the backseat of a comfortable transport vehicle, heading out from Dubai towards the coastal gem of Fujairah. The journey itself was a visual feast, with the desert’s golden sands giving way to rugged mountains and eventually the shimmering coastline. As someone who has spent countless hours riding the waves, the anticipation of exploring a new underwater world was exhilarating.

Our driver, Asad, was not just a chauffeur but a storyteller, weaving tales of the region’s history and culture as we made our way to our destination. After a morning of snorkeling, we returned to the base where a delightful BBQ lunch awaited us. Our host, an Indonesian lady whose name I regrettably missed, had prepared a simple yet delicious spread that was more than satisfying. As we enjoyed our meal, the camaraderie among the group was evident, with everyone sharing stories of their underwater adventures.

The journey back to Dubai was equally enriching, with a stop at the Al Bidya Mosque. This small, serene mosque offered a moment of reflection, its peaceful ambiance a perfect end to an adventurous day. Asad’s insights into the mosque’s history added depth to the experience, leaving me with a sense of connection to the region.
