KOKONOE “YUME” OTSURIHASHI opened on October 30th, 2006. It spans 390 meters in length, stands 173 meters high, and is 1.5 meters wide, making it the tallest pedestrian suspension bridge in Japan. Directly in front of this bridge, you can view ‘Shindo-no-taki’ or ‘Medaki’, which are among the ‘100 beautiful waterfalls in Japan’. Beyond the bridge, the expansive Narukogawa-Keikoku forest (the source of the Chikugo River) offers a captivating view in every season. Additionally, you can see the ‘Kuju-Renzan’ mountain ranges, including Mimata Mt. and Waita Mt., in the distance. This stunning 360-degree view truly lives up to its “walkway in the sky” name.

Yunotsubo Kaido Street runs through the heart of the popular hot spring town of Yufuin, stretching from Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrinko. It takes about 20 minutes to walk the distance without stopping, but the street’s intriguing shops, cafes, and galleries are worth an hour or two of leisurely exploration. The street is lined with low-rise, traditionally styled buildings, and Mt. Yufu towers above, enhancing the scenic atmosphere. It’s a delightful place to wander, sample local treats, enjoy a lakeside walk, and relax in one of the area’s many hot springs. *If you have opted for the paid tour guide, they will accompany you. The “hells” (地獄, jigoku) of Beppu are seven remarkable hot springs meant for viewing rather than bathing, showcasing steaming ponds of various colors, bubbling mud pools, and other geothermal phenomena. The hells are presented in a somewhat touristy manner, which may not appeal to everyone. Five of the seven hells are located in the Kannawa district, with two in the more secluded Shibaseki district.
