• Kumamoto Castle - Kumamoto Castle is recognized as one of the “Three Famous Castles in Japan.” Constructed by Kato Kiyomasa, the first lord of the Kumamoto Domain and a distinguished castle architect, it took seven years to build, starting in 1601.

The higher you climb, the more you feel compelled to explore further. There are numerous attractions, such as the unique stone walls called “Musha-gaeshi” and the splendid Honmaru Goten. It stands as a symbol of Kumamoto City.

After suffering significant damage from the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, the Tenshukaku was successfully restored in the spring of 2021. Situated on a slightly elevated hill in the heart of Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Castle, with its rich history spanning over 400 years, is a must-visit. • Kumamon Village - Kumamon Office (Japanese name: くまモンスクエア. Visit independently. It takes about 30 minutes for a round trip. Please manage your time accordingly.)

Kumamon was introduced in March 2011 with the launch of the Kyushu Shinkansen. The Kumamon Office serves as the hub for “Kumamon,” the Minister of Sales and Happiness for Kumamoto Prefecture, who is active both domestically and internationally, promoting tourism and product information for the region. From the Kumamon sales minister’s office to exclusive merchandise and even a café offering dishes made with local ingredients, it is a delightful, convenient, and tasty experience. When the minister is present, he performs an entertaining stage show.

• Mt. Aso Nakadake Crater - Aso Nakadake Crater (approximately 15 - 20 minutes, free time, additional entrance fees are at your own expense).

If the crater is under control, the itinerary will be adjusted according to the current situation.

Aso Nakadake Crater is located in the northeast of Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu. It is a renowned active volcano in Japan, featuring a unique caldera landscape. It is one of the few places where visitors can observe an active volcano up close. You can view the crater from a short distance and witness the continuous white smoke, offering an awe-inspiring experience of nature’s power and beauty.

• Kusasenrigahama - Kusasenrigahama is a vast grassland located at the northern base of Eboshidake. A rainwater-formed pool lies in the center, with cattle and horses grazing freely. The scenery changes with the seasons. In this expansive 20,000-hectare grassland, a leisurely walk on the lush green fields, watching the free-roaming cattle and sheep, and breathing the fresh mountain air can leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, as if in a fairyland.

• Aso Volcano Museum - Aso Volcano Museum (entrance fee is 1,100 yen, at your own expense).

Overlooking the vast Kusasenri, the Aso Volcano Museum is dedicated to “Aso Volcano,” showcasing the topography, geology, flora, and fauna of Aso. It contains a wealth of intriguing materials about the history of Aso Volcano. Visitors can observe the formation process of Aso Volcano through a 3D model and access valuable information about other volcanoes in Japan and worldwide. The museum’s advanced camera system also provides live footage of Nakadake Crater.

You can enjoy a horseback riding experience in Kusasenri at your own expense (a 5-minute ride for 1,500 yen for itinerary A; about 20 minutes for 4,000 yen for Itinerary B; about 25 minutes for 5,000 yen for C).
