Hands-down the most incredible thing you will do in Galveston - I was warned well ahead of time that Galveston would be underwhelming. That would have certainly been true... if it were not for this incredible tour, which remains one of the most impressive tours I have ever taken in my life, anywhere or on any subject. If you're lucky, you'll get Gin as your tour guide, who will make your head explode with poignant, human stories from the great storm of 1900 - it's not just an hour-and-a-half of facts thrown at you. Corny as it sounds, I actually found my heart racing as she recounted some of the harrowing things that happened exactly where we stood. Galveston's "Storm Survivor" markers strewn around the north end of the island make for a fun scavenger hunt, especially if you're dragging kids along and need to keep them occupied. In getting to know about the great storm of 1900, you get to know Galveston as a whole, and leave feeling oddly connected to the town. I will assume that very few of you read that whole block of text up there, so TL;DR - I highly recommend the Great Storm Hurrican Talk & Tour at the Galveston County Museum. You don't have to be a history buff to be jaw-dropped by the experience.

Incredible Hurricane History tour. - Gin was an OUTSTANDING tour guide. She had a wealth of knowledge about the 1900 hurricane as well as so much other Galveston history. She was very personable and answered every question we had about the hurricane and about the city of Galveston. It was a beautiful day for a walking tour. We highly recommend this tour and especially Gin!

If you thought you knew the storm, think again! - If you've been looking for a tour guide that knows everything there is to know about the complex history of Galveston, and the hundreds of human interest stories that came out of the Great Storm, then look no further than Gin! At every turn on this tour, Gin delivered stories with vivid detail and humanity. It's refreshing to hear someone so committed to uplifting the resiliency of the city without shying away from the horrors of the storm. Plus, the Galveston County Museum is a true hidden gem that I would've never gotten to see had it not been for starting this tour there! This tour is the real deal!

Great museum and info - Great tour! So nice to start at the Galveston County Museum (free parking!). They had a coroner's book, artifacts, plus other local history stories. The walking part of the tour gives good info and I like being in the place where history happened!

Storm Tour - "The Great Storm Talk and Tour" was simply fantastic. I learned so much, and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Galveston's history, and in particular The Great Storm of 1900. What made the Tour particularly special was to hear the history told along with vivid stories of the men, women, and children involved, and then to see the actual sites and buildings that were effected by these events. It was all done really well.
