Yellowstone National Park - As the first National Park in America, our Adventure Guides will share insights into the park’s history, ecology, geology, and more as we journey through Yellowstone.
Lamar Valley - During our wildlife tour, we dedicate a significant portion of the tour to observing the “Serengeti of Yellowstone” for grizzly and black bears, wolves, coyotes, eagles, badgers, bison, elk, pronghorn, moose, and various other animals. Spotting scopes and binoculars are provided to enhance viewing, and our knowledgeable adventure guide will assist in identifying the diverse flora and fauna of Yellowstone.
Lower Loop Geothermal Adventure with Lunch
Yellowstone National Park - Celebrating its 150th anniversary, Yellowstone is America’s first National Park.
Norris Geyser Basin - Known as the hottest and most dynamic thermal area in Yellowstone, Norris Geyser Basin offers a chance to explore many features along its 2 1/4 miles (3.6 km) of trails. Discover the world’s tallest active geyser, vibrant hot springs, and microscopic life thriving in one of the planet’s most extreme environments.
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone - The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River showcases the park’s intricate geologic history with its striking colors and formations. Steam puffs indicate hydrothermal features within the canyon walls. The Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River enhance the splendor of this unique natural wonder.
Hayden Valley - This expansive sub-alpine valley in Yellowstone National Park spans the Yellowstone River between Yellowstone Falls and Yellowstone Lake. The valley floor, once an ancient lake bed, dates back to when Yellowstone Lake was significantly larger.
Yellowstone Geysers - Mud Volcano Area - Yellowstone is a volcano, with one of its most impressive eruptions occurring 640,000 years ago. This eruption led to the formation of the Yellowstone Caldera, a large depression that filled with lava flows over millennia, creating the volcanic plateau that forms much of the park’s central region.
At Mud Volcano, visitors are near one of the resurgent domes. The hills to the east form Sour Creek Dome. Resurgent domes are areas of active ground deformation, where the land rises or falls with the magma chamber’s fluctuations below. Scientists closely monitor these domes for insights into ongoing volcanic activity.
Unsurprisingly, many of the park’s geysers, hot springs, mudpots, and fumaroles are located near or within the caldera.
Yellowstone Lake - Positioned at 7,733 feet (2,357 m) above sea level, Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake (above 7,000 feet / 2,134 m) in North America. It stretches approximately 20 miles (32.2 km) long and 14 miles (22.5 km) wide, with 141 miles (227 km) of shoreline and a surface area of 132 square miles (342 km2). Each winter, the lake freezes completely by late December or early January, with ice thickness ranging from a few inches to over two feet. The lake typically thaws in late May or early June. Yellowstone Lake remains cold throughout the year, with an average water temperature of 41°F (5°C). Due to the extremely cold water, swimming is not advised, as survival time is estimated to be only 20 to 30 minutes in such temperatures.
Old Faithful - Situated in Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin in the park’s southwest section, Old Faithful is the most accessible and visitor-friendly geyser-viewing area, featuring bench seating, a large parking lot, and a ranger station that tracks eruption times, heights, and durations to predict the next eruption.
Midway Geyser Basin - Home to the Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring in the park, measuring about 370 feet (112.8 m) in diameter and over 121 feet (37 m) deep. Fur trapper Osborne Russell’s 1839 description of this spring makes it the earliest identifiable thermal feature in Yellowstone.
Lower Geyser Basin - Along the Fountain Paint Pot Trail, visitors can observe various hydrothermal features that reflect Yellowstone’s active volcanic nature. This geologic system includes all types of thermal features, categorized into those with abundant water (hot springs and geysers) and those with limited water (mudpots and fumaroles). Despite structural similarities, each feature is unique.
Gibbon Falls - Gibbon Falls cascades 84 feet (0.3 m) over a remnant of the Yellowstone caldera rim, formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 640,000 years ago.
