Visit Recommended - Very nice museum. We learnt a lot about Canadian history. We only had 2 hours and it's definitely not enough. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Highy recommended and very educational! - Excellent museum! The hall with the totem poles and First Nations exhibits were very well done. We learned a great amount about Canada on the upper floors that we did not know previously. Highly recommended!

A must-do - Why did they have to make it so complicated? There is in fact a logic to the way displays are laid out - but it is not self-evident. Be sure to pick up a leaflet giving the floor plan, it helps a lot. Absolutely superb artefacts, particularly the First Nations material. It knocks spots off the Royal BC Museum, which used to do this very well, but no longer. Sensitive issues such as First Nations, LBGT etc, handled well. A bit in danger of becoming Woke. Very little focus on political history.

Very good to excellent, but WOKE, WOKE, WOKE. Missing whole chapters of history. - The Canadian Museum of History is located just across the river from Ottawa in Gatineau on the Quebec side of the Ontario-Quebec border. The museum itself is very good to excellent. The way things are presented, the use of technology, the flow of the museum, etc. Really no complaints in that regard. However, there seems to be a tremendous amount of wasted space. There are so many public areas of the museum that could have additional exhibits, curation, galleries -- whatever. The complex is huge but much of it feels empty. The only complaint I have is the history. They've gone all-in on woke. There are countless exhibits and galleries devoted to everything and anything Indian/Native/Aboriginal/First Nations/Indigenous. Meanwhile, important chapters like the American Revolution or War of 1812 are covered with literally on one placard in a single wall panel. How do you not have a full gallery on the American Revolution and United Empire Loyalists? Or, how do you not have a full gallery on the War of 1812, which arguably forced Canada to begin the process of self-governance from Britain? And there was absolutely NOTHING on Canada's monarchy.

Very complete. - Yeah, sure. It is a very large museum that often offers temporary exhibitions. There is a whole chronological journey that spans the entire history of Canada. Well, not everything is captivating for a European but there is material if you want to learn or revise the history of the country. The totems are very impressive. The building alone deserves a visit. It seems to me that the tour is free late Thursday afternoon.

All the history of Canada gathered in this magnificent building. many beautiful pieces heritage of Aboriginal people. a great deal of emotion about the history of a people who have fought for their survival for decades, as well as many poignant testimonies. the only black spot: the air conditioning melted what chilled me throughout the visit is 4 Hours in a Siberian cold!!!

A little overwhelming…. - A little overwhelming with hundreds of artefacts to see. Trouble was, way too dark to see all of the displays. The totem poles were great and well set out. Lower floor better than upper floor.
