The Best Fishing Trip - Wow. This was the highlight of our trip. It was worth every penny to make our anniversary the best day ever. I booked this trip for our anniversary, knowing that New Year’s Day is not the ideal fly fishing time especially in 30-40 degree weather. Wes called us up and warned us of this, offering to take us to a stocked area to give us a better chance of catching. I was honest and told him we had no expectation of catching and really just wanted to learn and enjoy the beauty of nature. After working with us to change the time and date of the trip due to our traveling, he got all of our wader and boot sizes and gave us a clear meet up spot. He was very responsive on the phone and also helped us with purchasing licenses to fish (which were less than $15 for the day per person). He was there waiting for us when we arrived and ran us through the plan. Then we followed him to the fishing spot and got dressed in the waders and boots, which were very clean and great quality. We took a short walk to the river and got started. Wes took his time teaching me and my husband how to cast, how to wade in a river, and how not to get hung up or hurt. I would say we accomplished all of our goals: we learned something, we were safe, and we enjoyed ourselves. Although we didn’t catch a million fish, it didn’t matter because the experience was wonderful. Wes made great conversation, taught us about fly fishing and the smoky mountains, and gave the best recommendations for food and excursions. We will definitely be returning and would absolutely love to do another trip with Wes as our guide. If you are considering this, do it! It doesn’t matter if the catch isn’t great because the experience of fishing in the serene Great Smoky Mountain National Park is unmatched. They call it fishing for a reason.

Great fly fishing excursion! - My teenage sons and I had an excellent fly fishing excursion with our guide Wes. He showed them how to fly fish and was an excellent tutor. He was also just a wonderful guy to hang out with for 4 hours! They both caught rainbow trout. A real highlight of this trip. 100% recommend Wes and this excursion.

Flyfishing in the Smoky Mountain National Park - I had a 6 hour fly fishing trip scheduled with Wes. It was a beautiful morning and we got on the water about 8 am. Now, I have never been a proficient fly fisherman and I hadn't been fishing for more than 5 years due to some health concerns, so Wes had his work cut out for him. lol The stream was filled with large rocks and I was having some trouble navigating them, but he never hesitated to offer a steading hand to me. His knowledge of the area history and the fishing were nothing short of incredible. (everything from what species could be found at what altitude and where to find fish simply due to a few degrees difference in water temperature) All of the information that he imparted was done as pleasant conversation and not as a student/teacher lecture. I have to commend him on his patience also. Considering the numerous strikes that I missed due to my slow responses and the half dozen or so overhead trees that I was particularly good at catching, he never lost his cool or commented on it. Overall, I am thrilled with the experience and would recommend it to anyone considering a tour of any kind in the area. The beauty of the area and the chance to be outdoors in this situation were amazing, and I did manage to catch a coupe of beautiful trout (4 Rainbow and 1 Brook). Not bad, considering my old age and inexperience. lol. All made possible by Wes's guidance. Great experience, great service, highly knowledgeable guide, highly recommend.

I had never fly-fished... - I had never fly-fished before, and I was travelling alone, so I was a little weary about booking this experience... little did I know it'd be one of my favourite parts of my entire USA trip (I still think about it today). Wes was an outstanding guide. He taught me all of the basics, chatted with me casually, and gave me some insider tips as we wadered up stream. He helped me catch my first fish! A beautiful rainbow trout. If you're travelling solo and find yourself in the beautiful Smoky Mountains, this is a must. BOOK IT! Thank you Wes. All the best!
