Mid-week Saturn - the ringed planet - Even though the weather wasn’t great for star gazing our guides Louise and Ben were excellent, there was a talk all about Saturn, a trip to their planetarium, and then out side to telescopes and the observatory. We saw Saturn and its rings, surface of the moon and Albireo A&B. Would definitely visit again when we are next in the Lakes. And we can recommend the hot chocolate 🙂

Ambleside MUST DO - This was an absolute treat! Louise and Andy could NOT have been more accommodating, knowledgeable, or enthusiastic. Despite me being the only one booked on the tour, I never felt like I was missing out. If anything, I’d recommend booking a visit to the planetarium while they’re still new - I felt like they’d shut the place down just for me. I got to see a wonderful show (Messengers of Space and Time), purchased some gifts from their gift display, saw a fragment of the Winchcombe meteorite AND held a piece of a destroyed planet’s mantle in my hand (on a slide of course!). Louise and Andy are truly worth a visit and are the true stars of the observatory.

Out of this world experience - We had an amazing evening all the staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. Attention to detail was given to the experience, the education and the awe of the stars. Have already recommended others to go and would 100% go again when in the area to see the nights sky at a different time of year. I had a smile on my face the entire time and so did many others in our party. The staff were also equally receptive to helping point things out if you just wanted to see the views or helping you learn how to effectively use the equipment to find stars yourself.

Fantastic Astronomy with the Director experience! - We booked the Astronomy with the Director experience for our family of 4. The whole experience is fantastic from start to finish! It started at 8:00, with a talk outside explaining the telescopes and site, among other interesting information. Then into one of the rooms for a presentation, along with answering any questions the group had. Gary and Phil were so knowledgeable, informative, enthusiastic and engaging and explained everything so clearly. It was really very interesting. After which we used the telescopes to look at the stars with our newly acquired knowledge. Gary and Phil were so helpful and fun and answered questions as well as helping us to use the telescopes. We went into the observatory too to see images from the huge telescope. It was a lovely clear night and we were able to see the stars very clearly. Later on we all had a delicious hot chocolate and bought some lovely things from their newly opened shop. Then back outside to see Saturn, which was the icing on the cake - fantastic!! We stayed until about 12:30 but we could have stayed longer if we wished. The whole experience was really wonderful, and Gary and Phil were fantastic - such lovely chaps. Thank you! ☺️ 🪐

A lovely experience - It was a lovely evening. We did the directors version, which starts at 8.30pm. Gary the Director was great and very informative, I learned lots of little things. I really enjoyed the star gazing. They sky was just like the website image, it was truly magically. I was pretty fatigued as I'm prgenant so unfortunately had to call it a night earlier than expected but they would have been happy for us to continue star gazing for a while. I reccomend it to everyone, astronomy fans or folks like my self with very little knowledge.

Amazing Experience at Astronomy with the Director - The Astronomy woth the director was amazing. We went as a (adult) family it was pitched to a range of audiences. I learnt lots of new things as a physics graduate and my family without a physics background learnt lots and enjoyed it too. The new soon to be open museum is amazing. Gary was so passionate and knowledgeable. It was cloudy and he stayed late so we could still get a good amount of time with the telescopes after the clouds cleared.

Wonderful observatory, very educational and entertaining - Went together with my son, who is an astronomy enthusiast. We had a great time. Gary, the director, took us through the history of astronomy to where we are today with an awesome slideshow with beautiful pictures and very captivating stories. After this great introduction Ben took us to the planetarium for an immersive experience. After tea and coffee, the evening was then wrapped up with education manager Phil who showed us the observatory and the telescope. The night was cloudy, but Phil managed to get us some views of Vega, a star ‘nearby’ in our Milky Way. Because the night was cloudy we got the invitation. To come back for free on a clear night. An offer we will definitely follow up, because it was such a great experience. 100% recommended

Go. Just go. You’ll love it - Awesome evening. The guys are so knowledgable and so worth the visit. Unfortunately the cloud came over at the last minute but we had already seen some stars and learned so much. They even give a free pass to go back if it does become cloudy which is even better. The new display of space memorabilia and being able to handle meteorites was awesome. I also had an issue the following day with the parking (my error) but the guys helped me to solve it in minutes over the phone. I could have listened to the talk all night. Just go. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks guys for an unforgettable evening.

Amazing experience with and about the night sky - Wow. What an incredible evening! The entire staff were so welcoming and knowledgeable, and had thought ahead about how to accommodate me being in a wheelchair. Every single staff member participating in the evening answered questions, helped find stars/galaxies/nebulas/constellations and presented cool information in exciting ways. If we lived near enough, we'd be here at least quarterly to see the seasonal changes in the sky (e.g., no planets visible in the summer sky until the wee hours). I attended with my teenage son, and we both sadly left at just after midnight due to fatigue. Couldn't have been a better experience, special thanks to Ben and Josh for spending endless time answering questions and finding objects for us, and Louise for being an excellent evening leader.

A brilliant and knowledge packed evening - A brilliant evening with Gary. We could have sat and listened to him all night; he spoke with knowledge and still retained awe and wonder at the universe. He skillfully took us through a tour of the stars and galaxies. No question was out of bounds and there were times when we were truly gobsmacked at the information. When we went outside the weather was not helpful to us (you get a clear sky promise so you can return to so the stargazing bit when there are clear skies) but we got to see the moon through telescopes and see some wonderful images on the main telescope as well as visit the planetarium and get to talk with Gary about anything that came up! Also, walked in to Neil Young playing away! This is thoroughly recommended. Thankyou Gary for a brilliant evening.
