An experience beyond my expectations! - This has it all...history, local culture, humor, and out of this world food! They were even able to fit us in last minute. I can't recommend this enough!

Best cooking tour across three countries; wonderful intimate experience - My partner and I have taken cooking classes/tours in three countries: South Africa, Sri Lanka, and this in Guyana. This was far and away the BEST in all aspects - the taste of the food, uniqueness of experiences beyond the cooking, and the interactions with the hosts. I especially loved how the tour told the story of Guyana's people - from their history as slaves and indentured workers, to the country's independence and present-day - through a culinary lens. Connecting history and food culture is a personal passion of mine, and I felt the hosts uniquely shared this passion with me.
The hosts, Eon and Jessica, could not be a more warm and interesting pair. My partner and I were the only ones on the tour, so it was a really intimate experience and we got to know them well. They have extremely interesting backgrounds, having both lived all over the world, then chose Guyana as their home. They are passionate about the food, music, and culture of Guyana, and about creating opportunities for local people and indigenous communities. Seeing and feeling their dedication to their country and community is inspiring, and really made us feel like our trip was meaningful.
The tour itself took us to numerous stops throughout Georgetown: Indian immigration monument, Bourda market, juice vendor, coconut water vendor, Tony's Puri Shop, lotus leaf harvesting, and finally Eon and Jessica's home where we prepared lunch. This gave us a glimpse of everyday life in Georgetown, and also gave a sense of what a tight-knit "small town"-like feel Georgetown has. Tony's Puri Shop was a highlight - exceptionally good dhal puri filled with potato-soya curry that was arguably the most delicious thing I've ever tasted.
The cooking itself was fun and easy. Eon and Jessica have streamlined the process so that guests learn the key steps and ingredients, without being overwhelmed or distracted by prep that'll take all day. Their backyard is set up with a kitchen, dining/prep tables, and stage under two covered areas that provide shade (or rain protection on such days). They have several fans to keep the area comfortable even in Guyana's humid environment. After we ate, Eon performed a few songs with his guitar, which was a really nice endcap to the day.
Logistics: We booked online via TripAdvisor, and we exchanged confirmation messages with Jessica here. (By comparison, I tried to also arrange a visit to Backyard Cafe, but could never get them to answer any WhatsApp messages.) Eon and Jessica picked us up at our hotel via taxi in the morning around 9 am. The taxi took us around town. They ordered us a taxi back to our hotel at the end of the tour, probably a bit after 2 pm. Eon and Jessica provided some photos and all recipes to us afterwards.
We enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone visiting Guyana. The personal touch makes this incredibly worthwhile.

Amazing food, history and music! - Amazing time spent with Eon and Jessica! The tour was amazing, we got to learn so much about Guyanese history especially as it relates to Indian heritage and food. We stopped at the market, the botanical garden and Tony’s Puri shop for the best dhal puri ever! Eon and Jessica were very knowledgeable and easy to connect with. The food we made was amazing and the music was great too. We’ve only been back from our trip for two days and have already started remaking some of the curries we had on the tour. Overall we would recommend anyone take this tour to experience some of Guyanas culture through food and amazing storytelling.

This is not a 5 star restaurant - it is an Experience! Wonderful! - I only had a vague idea if what to expect from this tour and was so pleasantly surprised at what a fabulous day it turned out to be.
Eon and Jessica were wonderful hosts, full of knowledge and very friendly.
We picked the fresh vegetables from the market, cut the ‘plates’ from the reeds in the Botanical Gardens before heading for some Dhal puri!
The Indian Monument Garden was another stop and drove hone the early beginnings of Guyana.
Then we cut the vegetables and Eon is an amazing chef and host. I was honoured to help stir one of the pots so ‘helped’ cook the meal! LOL
We then had the 7 currys on the leaves and it was so worth the wait.
Then the songs! I loved them and it out a cap on a really good day.
Dont miss thus tour!

A wonderful day - We have had the most fabulous day with singing chef adventures.
Jess and Eon couldn't do enough for our family. So much valuable information and history of beautiful Guyana. From visting the market, drinking coconut water and the amazing juice and Dhal Puri at Tony's to picking our own leaves and cooking the curry together as a group! It really was worth every penny.
Thank you so much!

Absolutely wonderful - It's been an absolute amazing experience. We learned about Guyana's history, did a bit of sightseeing and went shopping at the market to get all the fresh ingredients. It felt like we're visiting friends and family, crooked together and had some good laughs. We've been very lucky because it was just us and no other guests for that particular day. But even with more guests I am sure the experience is an absolute amazing experience and you shouldn't miss it while visiting beautiful Guyana.

Amazing experience - One of the best things we did in Guyana. Eon and Jessica were excellent hosts and very knowledgeable. We learned about Guyanese history and culture and the food Eon helped us prepare was the best meal we had during our visit. Topped off with some amazing singing. Highly recommend!
