Magnesia Antik Kenti - Situated in the Germencik district of Turkey’s western Aydın province, the ancient city of Magnesia was renowned as the “city of races,” drawing numerous visitors with its abundance of sporting events in antiquity. Today, it remains a popular destination on many travel bucket lists, captivating visitors with its impressive stadium that once hosted athletic games, gladiatorial contests, and chariot races. It is believed that the ancient Greek tribe of Magnetes from Thessaly founded Magnesia. Although named after the Magnetes, it was later referred to as Magnesia on the Meander (The Büyük Menderes River) to distinguish it from the nearby Lydian city.
