• Kandy - Nestled among misty hills, Kandy, Sri Lanka, enchants with its cultural richness and natural beauty. Home to the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, it offers tranquil lakes, lush botanical gardens, and vibrant markets. Kandy attracts visitors with its blend of history, spirituality, and scenic landscapes.
• Gadaladeniya - The tour begins at 8:30 am at the University of Peradeniya in Kandy. An experienced cycling guide will accompany the group, explaining the attractions along the way. Mountain bikes, helmets, and a bottle of water will be provided at the starting point. It is recommended to wear appropriate shoes to prevent injury during this extensive cycling tour. Additionally, ensure to have breakfast before starting the tour as there will be no stops for it.

The first stretch of the tour to Gadaladeniya will take approximately 45 minutes, including a short break. Upon arrival, visitors will find an ancient temple with strong South Indian influences, as the architect was brought from South India. Here, one can admire the giant golden Buddha statue and the unique design featuring the main stupa surrounded by four smaller satellite stupas.

• Lankatilaka Temple - After a twenty-minute tour, the journey continues to Lankatilaka Temple, arriving around 10:00 am. This palatial structure is built on natural rock, originally a four-storied edifice, now with three floors remaining. Constructed in the 14th century, this Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple also showcases South Indian architectural influence, evident in the intricately designed ornamental arches and Hindu Temple-like exterior walls. Be sure to view the beautiful paintings in the image house and the rock inscriptions on the temple’s bedrock.
• Embekka Devalaya - The final destination on the schedule is the Embekke Temple, a visual delight with its extensive carvings. The temple, predominantly made of wood, is adorned with intricate woodwork, making Embekke a renowned example of ancient Sri Lanka’s woodcrafting expertise. Among the finest masterpieces on the capital pillars are the Hansa Puttuwa (entwined swans), double-headed eagles, entwined rope designs, a mother breastfeeding her child, a soldier on horseback, female dancers, wrestlers, women emerging from a vein, a bird-man figure, elephant-bull, and elephant-lion figures. In total, there are over 500 unique designs among these carvings. Visitors will also be shown the distinctive architecture used in the wooden rafters.

After enjoying the beauty of Embekke, the tour will return to the University of Peradeniya.
