The Jennie Wade House, authentically furnished from cellar to attic, serves as a tribute to Jennie and life during the American Civil War. Away from the battlefield’s roar, this serene home tells the touching, personal story of Gettysburg’s only civilian casualty—a life tragically ended by a stray bullet in the late morning. At just 20 years old during the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors, ending her life.

Exhibits from that fateful day in 1863 are also on display, including the artillery shell that pierced the house’s roof and a floorboard still bearing Jennie’s blood.
