Initially, the route follows a Forest Service Road leading to an off-road trail. This path will guide participants to a privately owned meadow along Ash Creek, once part of the mining town known as Chrysotile. Here, the off-road vehicles will be parked. This segment of the trip will last about 30 minutes.
- Tonto National Forest - After parking, the hiking segment begins. Participants will trek alongside Ash Creek Canyon on a winding path with rocks, tree roots, and logs. Some climbing over obstacles will be necessary to reach Moon Canyon. A small dam in the creek will need to be crossed. The hike continues with a creek crossing and navigating over large boulders into Moon Canyon. Named for its otherworldly appearance, the canyon’s ground is a mix of rocks and sand compacted over millions of years. It’s an ideal spot for photography, exploration, and enjoying a snack.
- Chrysotile - After thoroughly exploring Moon Canyon, the group will retrace their steps back past the dam to the off-road vehicles. The tour will proceed along dirt and rock roads, offering stunning views and photo opportunities. The tour concludes at the starting point near US Highway 60. This off-road segment will also take approximately 30 minutes.
