• Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields on the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.

The plateau is elevated approximately 60 meters above sea level.

The Giza pyramid complex (مجمع أهرامات الجيزة), also known as the Giza necropolis or the Pyramids of Giza, is located on the Giza Plateau in Giza. It includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. All were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, between 2600 and 2500 BC.

• Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The Great Pyramid of Giza[a] is the largest Egyptian pyramid and served as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, who reigned during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Built around 2600 BC, over approximately 27 years, the pyramid is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one that remains largely intact. It is the most renowned monument of the Giza pyramid complex, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Memphis and its Necropolis.” It is located at the northeastern end of the line of the three main pyramids at Giza.

Originally standing at 146.6 meters (481 feet), the Great Pyramid was the world’s tallest human-made structure for over 3,800 years. Over time, most of the smooth white limestone casing was removed, reducing the pyramid’s height to the current 138.5 meters (454.4 ft); what is visible today is the underlying core structure. The base was measured to be about 230.3 meters (755.6 ft) square.

• Khafre’s Pyramid - The pyramid of Khafre, also known as Chephren, is the middle of the three Ancient Egyptian Pyramids of Giza, the second tallest and second largest of the group. It is the only pyramid among the three that still has cladding at the top. It serves as the tomb of the Fourth-Dynasty Pharaoh Khafre (Chefren), who ruled around 2558−2532 BC.
• Pyramid of Menkaure - The pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the three main pyramids of the Giza pyramid complex, located on the Giza Plateau in the southwestern outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. It is believed to have been constructed as the tomb of the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure.

Menkaure’s pyramid originally stood at 65.5 meters (215 ft) and was the smallest of the three major pyramids at the Giza Necropolis. It now stands at 61 meters (200 ft) tall with a base of 108.5 meters (356 ft). Its angle of incline is approximately 51°20′25″. It was built using limestone and Aswan granite. The first sixteen courses of the exterior were made of red granite. The upper portion was cased in the usual manner with Tura limestone. Part of the granite was left unfinished. Incomplete projects like this pyramid help archaeologists understand the methods used to build pyramids and temples.

• Great Sphinx of Giza - The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the head of a human and the body of a lion. Facing directly from west to east, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The face of the Sphinx is thought to represent Pharaoh Khafre. The original shape of the Sphinx was carved from the bedrock and has since been restored with layers of limestone blocks. It measures 73 meters (240 ft) long from paw to tail, 20 meters (66 ft) high from the base to the top of the head, and 19 meters (62 ft) wide at its rear haunches.

The Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and one of the most recognizable statues in the world.
