- Pyramids of Giza - Begin your full-day tour with a pickup from your Cairo hotel by a tour guide to visit the Giza Pyramids. The Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are among the world’s most renowned tourist attractions, having been so even during Roman times. These magnificent structures served as the final resting places for kings of the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC). The Great Pyramid of Giza was constructed for King Khufu (c.2589–2566 BC), while the other two were built for Khafre and Menkaure, his son and grandson. Khufu’s pyramid is the oldest and largest of the trio, and it remained the tallest man-made structure for 3,800 years!
- Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Saqqara is one of the most significant cemeteries of Memphis, a pivotal city in ancient Egyptian history. The site’s name likely originates from Sokar, the god of this necropolis. Saqqara is essentially an open-air museum, showcasing the entirety of ancient Egyptian history.
- Memphis and Sakkara - Memphis City, also known as Men-nefer, was the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt, referred to as mḥw (“North”). Its ruins are near the modern village of Mit Rahina, in the Badrashin district of Giza, Egypt. The modern name likely stems from the late Ancient Egyptian name for Memphis, mjt-rhnt, meaning “Road of the Ram-Headed Sphinxes.”
- Red Pyramid - Dahshur Pyramids Dahshur was the southern section of the Memphis cemetery, the capital of ancient Egypt. Pyramids for the kings of the Old and Middle Kingdoms were constructed on this site. The first king of the 4th Dynasty, Sneferu, selected the rocky plateau of Dahshur to build his first pyramid, aiming to rival King Djoser’s pyramid in Saqqara, but he did not complete it.
