- Pyramids of Giza - An Egyptology guide will collect visitors from their hotel in a private, air-conditioned car for a day at the pyramids. Among Egypt’s top tourist destinations, the Pyramids of Giza are paramount. These three main pyramids were constructed during the 4th Dynasty (around 2550 B.C) as tombs for royalty, a privilege reserved for the Old and Middle Kingdoms. Today, Egypt boasts over 93 pyramids, with the most renowned located at Giza. Visitors can tour the site to appreciate its grandeur, enjoy a 15-minute camel ride on the panorama mountain, take amusing photos, and experience a one-hour quad bike ride in the Sahara Desert, before returning safely to the hotel.
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest, tallest, and most well-preserved pyramid in Egypt. It was recognized as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” and remains the only one still standing. For 4,300 years, it was the tallest structure on earth until the Eiffel Tower was erected in 1889. Constructed entirely of limestone, Khufu’s Pyramid is an architectural marvel, comprising approximately 1,300,000 blocks weighing between 2.5 and 15 tons. Its square base spans 13 acres, with sides measuring about 230m (755ft). The pyramid’s four sides align precisely with the cardinal points and have an angle of 52 degrees.
- Menkaure Pyramid - Built by Khafre’s son, Menkaure, this is the smallest of the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau. Originally 65.5m (215ft) tall, it now stands at 62m (203ft), with sides of 105m (344ft) and an angle of 51.3 degrees. It is believed that the pyramid was expanded during construction, increasing its size significantly. The initial smaller pyramid featured a simple descending corridor and burial chamber, but with its enlargement, a new corridor with three portcullises and a small paneled chamber was added. Later, an additional burial chamber and storeroom were constructed at a lower level. Like its two neighbors, this pyramid has a north-facing entrance.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Known as the 2nd Pyramid, Khafre’s Pyramid is distinguished by the remaining layers of its original casing stones near the summit. Positioned on a higher part of the plateau, it appears taller than the Great Pyramid, though it is actually 136m (446 ft) tall, with sides of 214.5m (704ft), covering a surface area of 11 acres and having an angle of 53 degrees. Over time, it has lost some height, originally standing at 143.5m (471ft).
- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx, or “Shesep Ankh” as it was known to the ancients, is one of history’s most iconic structures. The Sphinx is synonymous with Egypt and the Giza Plateau. Carved from soft sandstone, it might have eroded away if not for being buried in sand for extended periods. The body measures 60m (200ft) in length and 20m (65ft) in height, with a face 4m (13ft) wide and eyes 2m (6ft) high. Facing the rising sun, it was so revered by the ancients that they constructed a temple in its honor.
