- Pyramids of Giza - The tour guide will pick guests up from their hotel to enjoy a day at the pyramids. Among Egypt’s major tourist attractions, the Pyramids of Giza are at the top of the list. These are Egypt’s three primary pyramids, constructed during the 4th Dynasty (around 2550 B.C). The pyramids of Ancient Egypt served as tombs for kings (and queens), a prestigious honor during the Old and Middle Kingdoms.
Today, there are over 93 pyramids in Egypt, with the most renowned located at Giza.
Let’s embark on a tour around the pyramid site to explore the area’s magnificence:
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The renowned Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest, tallest, and most well-preserved pyramid in Egypt. After its construction, it was recognized as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World,” and today, it remains the only one still standing. For 4,300 years, it was the tallest structure on earth until the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889.
Khufu’s Pyramid is entirely made of limestone and is considered an architectural marvel. It comprises approximately 1,300,000 blocks, each weighing between 2.5 tons and 15 tons. Its square base spans 13 acres, with sides measuring about 230m (755ft). The four sides align precisely with the cardinal points and have an angle of 52 degrees.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s Pyramid, or the 2nd Pyramid, is easily identified by the layers of original casing stones still visible near its summit. This, along with its position on a higher part of the plateau, creates the illusion that it is taller than the Great Pyramid. However, it stands at 136m (446 ft) tall, with sides of 214.5m (704ft), covering a surface area of 11 acres and having an angle of 53 degrees. It has lost some height over the years, originally being 143.5m (471ft) tall.

- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx, known to the ancients as “Shesep Ankh” or “the living image,” is one of history’s most recognizable structures. The Sphinx is synonymous with Egypt and the Giza Plateau. Carved from soft sandstone, it might have vanished long ago if not for being buried in sand for extended periods. The body measures 60m (200ft) in length and 20m (65ft) in height. Its face is 4m (13ft) wide, with eyes measuring 2m (6ft) high. It faces the rising sun and was so revered by the ancients that they built a temple in front of it. After the tour, guests will return to their hotel.
