These are Egypt’s three primary pyramids, constructed during the 4th Dynasty (around 2550 B.C). In Ancient Egypt, pyramids served as tombs for kings and queens, a privilege reserved for the Old and Middle Kingdoms.

• Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The renowned Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest, tallest, and most well-preserved pyramid in Egypt. It was recognized as one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” and remains the only one still standing. For 4,300 years, it was the tallest structure on earth until the Eiffel Tower was erected in 1889.

Khufu’s Pyramid, made entirely of limestone, is an architectural marvel. It comprises approximately 1,300,000 blocks, each weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. Its square base spans 13 acres, with sides measuring about 230m (755ft). The four sides align precisely with the cardinal points and have an angle of 52 degrees.

• Khafre’s Pyramid - The 2nd Pyramid, Khafre’s Pyramid, is easily identified by the remaining layers of its original casing stones near the top. Its position on a higher plateau gives the illusion of being taller than the Great Pyramid, though it stands at 136m (446 ft) with sides of 214.5m (704ft), covering 11 acres with a 53-degree angle. Originally 143.5m (471ft) tall, it has lost some height over time.

• Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure, Khafre’s son, constructed the smallest of the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau. Initially 65.5m (215ft) tall, it now stands at 62m (203ft), with sides of 105m (344ft) and a 51.3-degree angle. It is believed that the pyramid was expanded during construction, resulting in a larger structure than initially planned. The original pyramid featured a simple descending corridor and burial chamber, but with its enlargement, a new corridor with three portcullises and a small paneled chamber was added. Later, another burial chamber and storeroom were included at a lower level. Like its neighbors, this pyramid has a north-facing entrance.

• Great Sphinx - Known to the ancients as “Shesep Ankh” or “the living image,” the Great Sphinx is one of history’s most recognizable structures. The Sphinx is synonymous with Egypt and the Giza Plateau. Carved from soft sandstone, it might have vanished long ago if not for being buried in sand for extended periods. The body measures 60m (200ft) in length and 20m (65ft) in height, with a face 4m (13ft) wide and eyes 2m (6ft) high. Facing the rising sun, it was so revered by the ancients that they constructed a temple in front of it. After the tour, guests will return to their hotel.
