Pyramids of Giza - The sole surviving wonder of the ancient world; for almost 4000 years, the remarkable shape, flawless geometry, and immense size of the Giza Pyramids have prompted the obvious questions: ‘How were they built, and why?’. Centuries of research have provided partial answers. Constructed as monumental tombs by the pharaohs’ orders, they were built by teams of workers numbering in the tens of thousands. Today, they stand as a breathtaking testament to the power, organization, and accomplishments of ancient Egypt.
Great Sphinx - Known in Arabic as Abu Al Hol (Father of Terror), this sculpture of a man with the body of a lion was named the Sphinx by the ancient Greeks because it resembled their mythical winged creature who posed riddles and killed those unable to solve them. A geological survey has indicated that it was likely carved from the bedrock at the base of the causeway during Khafre’s reign, so it probably depicts his features.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Home to one of the world’s most significant collections of ancient artifacts, the Egyptian Museum is prominently located in Downtown Cairo, on the north side of Midan Tahrir. Inside the grand domed, uniquely pinkish building, the dazzling treasures of Tutankhamen and other great pharaohs are displayed alongside the grave goods, mummies, jewelry, eating bowls, and toys of Egyptians whose names have been lost to history. Walking through the museum is like embarking on a journey through time.
Nile River - After this fascinating day tour, you will head to the magnificent Nile for a delightful sunset felucca ride (sailboat). Enjoy the sunset over the Nile while observing the local life of Egyptians, as they typically begin socializing in the evening.
Saladin Citadel (Cairo Citadel), Mohamed Ali Mosque, Coptic Cairo, Khan El Khalili Souk, Authentic Lunch
Mosque of Muhammad Ali - Designed in classic Ottoman style, with domes upon domes, this alabaster-white mosque within the Citadel took 18 years to complete (1830–48). Its interior features twinkling chandeliers and vividly striped stone, with the main dome a rich emerald green. Mohammed Ali is entombed on the right as you enter.
Coptic Cairo - A maze of ancient and modern churches and monasteries, set within the walls of the fortress of Babylon founded in the 6th century BC and expanded by the Roman Emperor Trajan in AD 98, Coptic Cairo offers a fascinating contrast to the rest of the city and houses the beautiful Coptic Museum. Visitors can see the oldest church, mosque, and synagogue in Cairo.
Khan Al-Khalili - The narrow lanes of Khan Al Khalili resemble a medieval-style mall. This collection of shops – many arranged around small courtyards – offers everything from soap powder to semi-precious stones.
Explore this unique souk and its old Islamic architecture, including mosques, houses, inns, and cafes. The Khan was founded by a foreign prince around the 13th century BC and initially served as a graveyard for the Fatimid.
Cairo Citadel - The Citadel of Cairo, or Citadel of Saladin, is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, constructed by Salah ad-Din and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It served as the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years, from the 13th to the 19th centuries.
