Pyramids of Giza - The Giza Pyramid Complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. This site features the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated complexes and the iconic Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The area also includes several cemeteries and remnants of a workers’ village.
Situated at the edge of the Western Desert, the site is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) west of the Nile River in Giza and about 13 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of Cairo’s city center.
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Saqqara is an expansive, ancient burial ground in Egypt, serving as the necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Saqqara is home to numerous pyramids, including the renowned Step Pyramid of Djoser, sometimes called the Step Tomb, and several mastaba tombs. Located around 30 km (19 miles) south of modern Cairo, Saqqara spans an area of approximately 7 by 1.5 km (4.35 by 0.93 miles).
Pyramids of Dahshour - The Dahshur pyramids were crucial in the Egyptians’ architectural evolution, providing the expertise to transition from step-sided to smooth-sided pyramids. This knowledge eventually enabled the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza, the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing.
The first pyramid at Dahshur was the Bent Pyramid (2613–2589 BC), built under King Sneferu’s reign. The second was the Red Pyramid, which, upon completion, was deemed a success as a fully constructed, smooth-sided, freestanding pyramid, reaching a height of 341 feet (104 meters) with a 43-degree angle.
Memphis and Sakkara - The tour also includes a visit to Memphis, the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt, known as mḥw (“north”). Its ruins are near the modern town of Mit Rahina, 20 km (12 miles) south of Giza in Greater Cairo, Egypt.
Egyptian Museum, Citadel of Cairo & Khan Khalili Bazaar
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Commonly referred to as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, this museum in Cairo, Egypt, houses an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It boasts 120,000 items, with a significant portion on display and the rest in storage. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian company Garozzo-Zaffarani and designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, it is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the museum is open to the public, and in 2021, it is set to be replaced by the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
Cairo Citadel - The Citadel of Cairo, or Citadel of Saladin, is a medieval Islamic-era fortress in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by later Egyptian rulers. It served as Egypt’s government seat and the rulers’ residence for nearly 700 years, from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Positioned on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near Cairo’s center, it offers a strategic view over the city and dominates its skyline. At its construction, it was among the most impressive military fortification projects of its time. Today, it is a preserved historic site, featuring mosques and museums.
Khan Al-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili (Arabic: خان الخليلي) is a renowned bazaar and souq in Cairo’s historic center, Egypt. Established during the Mamluk era as a trade hub and named after one of its historic caravanserais, the bazaar district has become a major attraction for both tourists and locals. It is home to many Egyptian artisans and workshops producing traditional crafts and souvenirs.
