The most remarkable attraction in Gjirokaster is the hilltop Gjirokaster Castle, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the city center. After exploring the castle, visitors can enjoy the Bazaar market, tour a historic house, or discover one of the many intriguing museums.

• Gjirokastra Bazaar - Known locally as “Qafa e Pazarit,” the Old Bazaar forms the heart of the Old Town in Gjirokastra. The Bazaar’s history dates back to the 17th century. Although not much remains from that era, sources indicate that a devastating fire affected the old bazaar in the third quarter of the 19th century.

Following the fire, the bazaar was completely rebuilt. This is why the buildings share a similar architectural style, with some being two stories and others three, yet all maintaining a consistent structure. The first floor was where artisans worked throughout the day, while the second floor served various purposes. Some shops had a back door used exclusively by the owner, and a sidewalk was constructed in front for pedestrians, which was uncommon in other bazaars of the same period.

• Skenduli House - Nasip Skenduli, the owner and a descendant of the family that originally built the house, is an exceptional storyteller. He provides detailed insights into the house and its preservation over the years. During the communist era, it served as the original Ethnographic Museum, but now the owners have reclaimed their house and keep it open for visitors.
• The Cold War Tunnel - The Cold War Tunnel in Gjirokastra is an underground tunnel and bunker complex, initially constructed as an emergency shelter during the post-World War II communist era. It is now a museum that can be visited with a guide. The entrance is located at Çerciz Toppuli Square, where a tourist information point is available to arrange guided tours (self-guided exploration of the tunnels is not permitted).

The tunnel complex was built beneath Gjirokastra Castle in the late 1970s under the communist dictator Enver Hoxha. After Albania’s split with the Soviet Union in the 1960s, Hoxha became increasingly paranoid about potential invasions, leading to the construction of bunkers and shelters throughout the country.

• The Blue Eye - The Blue Eye of Albania is one of the most stunning sights in the country. It is a natural freshwater spring that pumps vibrant blue water to the surface. The Blue Eye has become a popular tourist attraction due to the magical blue color of its waters.
