• Southern Necropolis - Established in 1840, the Southern Necropolis serves as the final resting place for around 250,000 individuals who have contributed to the rich historical tapestry of the Gorbals, Glasgow, and beyond. The tour will feature visits to various notable graves across the cemetery’s three sections, along with an exploration of documents and photographs that highlight the history and personalities associated with the Southern Necropolis. Stops will include the renowned White Lady monument, where legend has it that walking around her three times may turn you to stone. The tour will also introduce the distinctive monument of architect Alexander “Greek” Thomson, the grave of Sir Thomas Lipton, and details about the 1954 Gorbals Vampire incident. Refreshments will be available after the tour.
