Goanikontes, the first freshwater oasis in the desert, has historically attracted human settlement and development, rich with memories of challenging times. The profound silence of the desert gravel plains adds to their mystique. As we drive past the tiny lichens, which form a field across the desert, we marvel at these small organisms—a symbiotic partnership between algae and fungi. How do these and other plants endure in such a harsh environment with only 15mm of annual rainfall? Fog serves as the primary moisture source, prompting adaptations for survival.
