- Falkland Islands - The settlement of Fitzroy is named after Robert FitzRoy, the commander of HMS Beagle during Darwin’s expeditions, and features six memorials related to the 1982 conflict. On June 8th, Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships, Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram, were attacked while the Welsh Guards awaited disembarkation, resulting in significant casualties. The memorials display inscriptions in both English and Welsh. Fitzroy remains an active sheep farm, as it was in 1982. A brief tour of the settlement offers insight into this way of life before visiting the memorials overlooking the bay where the June 8 attacks occurred.
- Goose Green - On May 28–29, 1982, Goose Green was the location of the first land battle of the Falklands War, due to its proximity to the British landing site at San Carlos. British commanders sought an early victory, despite the site’s limited military significance. A small museum in the settlement is dedicated to the 1982 conflict, with opportunities to view various memorials and battle sites. These include tributes to Lieutenant Colonel Herbert “H” Jones, posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross; Lieutenant Nick Taylor, pilot of Sea Harrier XZ450, shot down by Argentine anti-aircraft guns on May 4, 1982; and the 2 Para Memorial, honoring the 15 soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, Para Regiment, temporarily buried there. Goose Green residents, once held captive by Argentine forces, gather annually on May 29 to commemorate their liberation.
- Blue Beach Military Cemetery - On May 21, 1982, British troops landed at San Carlos. The cemetery, designed like a corral, honors the South Atlantic Task Force, with a memorial listing those who perished. Overlooking the serene San Carlos Water, visitors can reflect on the challenges faced by British forces upon landing and pay tribute to the fallen.
- Argentine Military Cemetery - This cemetery holds 237 graves of Argentine soldiers who died in the war. After the conflict, the UK offered to return the bodies to Argentina, but the Argentine government declined, asserting the Falklands as Argentine territory. Simple white crosses are sheltered by a hill, providing a peaceful resting place shielded from the Falklands’ strong winds. Ascending the hill to the cemetery reveals a noticeable calm, offering tranquility to the 237 soldiers interred there. Behind the graves, a remembrance wall lists the names of all 649 Argentinians killed in the Falklands War. A short walk above the cemetery offers views of Goose Green settlement and other significant 1982 sites.
