- West Kennet Long Barrow - West Kennet Long Barrow is an impressive Neolithic chambered tomb located in Wiltshire, constructed around 3650 BC, making it older than both Stonehenge and the pyramids. This elongated mound extends approximately 100 meters and houses five stone burial chambers at its eastern end, where the remains of at least 46 individuals have been found. The barrow is built from earth and stone, with large standing stones marking its entrance. Visitors can explore the atmospheric interior of the chambers, gaining insight into ancient burial practices. The site offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, including nearby Silbury Hill, and is part of the larger Avebury complex. Although its exact purpose remains unknown, West Kennet Long Barrow holds historical and spiritual significance, attracting both historians and modern-day visitors seeking to connect with Britain’s ancient past.
- Avebury Stone Circle - Avebury Stone Circle is one of the largest and most significant prehistoric stone circles globally, situated in Wiltshire, England. Dating back to around 2500 BC, it is part of the larger Avebury complex, which includes avenues of standing stones, burial mounds, and other Neolithic structures. Unlike the more famous Stonehenge, Avebury features a massive outer circle, enclosing two smaller inner circles, and spans nearly 1,200 feet in diameter. The site is unique because the village of Avebury is built within the circle, allowing visitors to walk freely among the stones. Its original purpose remains a mystery, though it is believed to have been used for ceremonies or rituals. The vast scale and atmosphere of Avebury make it a fascinating place to explore, offering a more immersive experience compared to Stonehenge.
- Avebury - The village of Avebury, located in Wiltshire, England, is a charming and historic settlement nestled within the famous Avebury Stone Circle. This unique village blends ancient history with rural English life, as its houses, pubs, and church sit amidst the massive standing stones. Avebury is small but picturesque, featuring traditional thatched cottages, a medieval church, and The Red Lion, a 17th-century pub reputed to be haunted. As part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Avebury is a special place - not to be missed!
