- Mouse Island - At the entrance of the Halikiopoulos lagoon lies one of Corfu’s most renowned landmarks, also celebrated across Europe, known as the much-photographed Pontikonisi - Mouse Island. Its name continues to captivate even after years of fame. The Kanoni area and Mouse Island have inspired countless artists over the centuries and have been featured in major Greek and international film productions.
Holy Monastery of Panagia Vlacherna
This charming church, built in the 17th century, was abandoned around 1980 by its last residing monk. It is a small religious site with a two-story bell tower that appears to “float” on the footbridge.
- Kaiser’s Throne - Emperor Wilhelm II was enchanted by Corfu Island. In 1907, he purchased the Achilleion Palace from Princess Sissy of Austria, making it his residence on the island. He actively participated in the excavations of Agios Theodoros in Garitsa Bay, and many buildings and landmarks bear his name, such as the beautiful Kaiser Bridge, constructed for direct access from the Achilleion Palace to the beach, which was partially destroyed during World War II.
Shortly before his death in 1914, he decided to leave a viewpoint as a unique gift for the locals and visitors to the island. This was his private observatory, where he found peace and enjoyed the breathtaking views and stunning beauty of oil-rich Corfu.
The Kaiser’s observatory, or throne, attracts visitors worldwide for its stunning views and distinctive details.
- Palaiokastritsa - One of Corfu’s most famous attractions is the caves of Paleokastritsa, each shrouded in mystery. One cave is named Nausicaa, after the daughter of the king of Corfu who saved Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as described by Homer in Greek mythology. Enjoy this unique experience, and rest assured that this extraordinary environment with its crystal-clear waters will amaze you.
An incredible boat experience with transparent turquoise waters in Paleokastritsa awaits. Assistance will be provided to board the small boat to explore the central west coast, filled with rock formations and small caves. Travel to this legendary area where another surprise awaits… due to the boat’s small size, entry into the caves is possible.
- Paleokastritsa Monastery - The church is a single-aisled basilica with a wooden roof, considered a sample of monastic architecture. A typical Ionian-style bell tower is located in the courtyard. Priceless Byzantine and post-Byzantine period pictures adorn the interior, and the monastery’s wealth is evident in the small museum within. In the Monastery of Palaiokastritsa museum, a whale skeleton is displayed, said to have killed a fisherman in the 19th century.
In the 19th century, during British rule, the monastery served as a military hospital, and the road to the Monastery of Palaiokastritsa was constructed during the same period.
- Lakones - The village of Lakones is literally “hung” on the edge of a cliff. The view from above is breathtaking and is arguably the most beautiful on the entire island. The green of the olives and pines “embraces” the endless blue of the sea and rocky coastline, creating a truly stunning spectacle.
Almost all visitors to Corfu visit this place to admire the unique view and capture the most cherished photo of their lives.
- Enotis - Olive Groves & Museum - In the heart of a Corfiot olive grove, visitors will meet the owners of a unique oil press who will gladly share insights into the specific features of Corfiot olives and olive oil, as well as the unique olive variety cultivated on the island. They will reveal the well-kept secrets of a good olive oil producer and discuss the socio-economic and historical role olives play in Corfiot life. Additionally, they will highlight the healing properties of olive oil.
The tour will be a journey back in time, showcasing how oil producers used large, rotating stone wheels driven by animals to grind oils. Visitors will see old pressers, containers for olive oil storage, and a wide variety of original tools and vessels from that era.
Finally, there will be an opportunity for olive and olive oil tasting, accompanied by local products, while learning to distinguish the special features of Corfiot olive oil, just like the locals do.
-
Corfu Town - Enjoy a delightful walk through the historic center of Corfu, where three nations converge, bridging the East and the West.
The old town center of Corfu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a unique, world-renowned location that never fails to captivate visitors.
Corfu’s old town boasts numerous impressive and world-famous sites, each with its own unique historical development: towering fortresses, considered unapproachable, which contributed to the island’s defense against potential conquerors, and magnificent palaces that still maintain their power and grandeur; museums of historical significance and great architecture, old mansions, and colorful houses built in the Venetian style, famous cosmopolitan squares, and magnificent churches, reflecting the strong religious beliefs of the Corfiots.
