- Great Meteoron Monastery - The Monastery of the Transfiguration of Jesus is the first monastic community established in the area. Before Blessed Athanasios of Mt. Athos founded this community, monks lived in Meteora solely as hermits or ascetics. This monastery boasts an impressive history spanning nearly 700 years.
- Varlaam Monastery - Varlaam Monastery was the first to implement a pulley system, allowing monks to transport materials to the top of the rock more efficiently and safely. The monastery features a fascinating museum, where visitors can admire the original pulley system and the frescoes by the renowned artist Frago Catellano.
- Kalambaka - Kalambaka is a town and the administrative center of the Meteora municipality in the Trikala regional unit. The Meteora monasteries are situated nearby. An ancient Greek inscription on one of the town’s oldest churches (Saint John the Baptist) attests to the existence of a settlement named Aiginion. In the 10th century AD, it was known as Stagoi (Σταγοί). The name Kalambaka, of Turkish origin, means “powerful fortress.” The tour concludes with a final stop in Kalambaka.
