Athos founded this community, monks lived in Meteora solely as hermits or ascetics. This monastery boasts an impressive history spanning nearly 700 years. - Varlaam Monastery - Varlaam Monastery was the first to implement a pulley system, enabling monks to transport materials to the top of the rock more efficiently and safely.
