Setting Sail on the Aegean

The sun was just beginning to dip below the horizon as I boarded the catamaran Vasiliki, ready for an adventure that promised to be as thrilling as it was relaxing. The gentle sway of the boat beneath my feet was a familiar sensation, reminiscent of my days riding the waves. But this time, I was trading my surfboard for a sail, eager to explore the stunning coastline of Santorini.

Our skipper, Vangelis, greeted us with a warm smile, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable journey. As we set sail, the vibrant hues of the Red Beach came into view, a striking contrast against the azure waters. I couldn’t resist diving in, the cool water a refreshing embrace as I snorkeled through the rich seabed, teeming with life.

A Feast for the Senses

Back on board, the aroma of grilled gambas and barbecue pork wafted through the air, mingling with the salty sea breeze. Our hostess, Danai, ensured that every detail was perfect, from the perfectly grilled meats to the pasta in tomato sauce, which had a secret ingredient that added a delightful twist. The Greek salad and tzatziki were fresh and flavorful, a true taste of the Mediterranean.

As we sailed past the White Beach and the Black Mountain Beach, Mustapha, always smiling, shared stories and insights about each location. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his translations into French added an extra layer of immersion to the experience. With an open bar offering Greek wine and beer, the atmosphere on board was lively and convivial.

Sunset Serenity

Our final stop was the volcanic islands and the famous hot springs, where the warm waters provided a soothing contrast to the cool sea. As the sun began its descent, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, we gathered on deck to watch the spectacle unfold. Dinner was served, complemented by wine and dessert, as we marveled at the breathtaking beauty of the Santorini sunset.
