• Derinkuyu Underground City - Situated in Derinkuyu, Cappadocia, this ancient multi-level city is carved into volcanic rock, reaching depths of about 60 meters (200 feet). It once accommodated up to 20,000 people, along with their livestock and supplies. Believed to have originated as early as the 8th century BCE and expanded over time, the city features ventilation shafts, kitchens, churches, storage rooms, and even a school. It served as a refuge during periods of war or invasion.
