Chasing Waterfalls and Wildlife in Guanacaste

Craving a break from the waves, I embarked on a journey to Llanos de Cortes in Guanacaste Province. Join me as I explore breathtaking waterfalls, hike through lush rainforests, and encounter the gentle creatures of the Jungle Life Sloth Sanctuary.

A Splash of Serenity at Llanos de Cortes

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours chasing the perfect wave, but every now and then, I crave a different kind of water adventure. That’s what led me to the Llanos de Cortes Waterfall in the heart of Guanacaste Province. The journey began with the sound of cascading water growing louder as I made my way through the lush tropical forest. The sight that greeted me was nothing short of magical—a crystal-clear waterfall tumbling over moss-covered rocks into a serene pool below.

I couldn’t resist the call of the cool waters, and soon found myself taking a refreshing dip, surrounded by the symphony of nature. The sandy shores provided the perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun, a welcome change from the salty embrace of the ocean. It was a moment of pure tranquility, a hidden gem that felt like my own little paradise.

Hiking Through the Heart of Nature

The adventure continued with a hike through Tenorio Volcano National Park, a place where the rainforest comes alive with the calls of exotic birds and the rustle of leaves. Our guide, Kevin, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing insights into the rich biodiversity of the region. As we approached the Rio Celeste Waterfall, the vibrant turquoise waters took my breath away. It was a scene of unparalleled beauty, a natural wonder that seemed almost otherworldly.

The hike was moderately challenging, but every step was worth it for the chance to witness such a spectacle. Standing in awe of the majestic cascade, I felt the cool mist on my skin and the sheer power of nature. It was a moment to savor, capturing photographs from every angle to remember the experience.

A Taste of Costa Rica and a Heartwarming Encounter

After the hike, we indulged in a hearty Costa Rican meal at a local restaurant. The flavors of gallo pinto, plantains, and fresh tropical fruits were a delicious taste of the local cuisine, a perfect way to refuel for the next part of the journey.

The true highlight, however, was the visit to the Jungle Life Sloth Sanctuary. Getting up close to these gentle creatures was a dream come true. Kevin’s deep understanding of sloth behavior and conservation efforts made the visit both educational and heartwarming. It was evident how much the sanctuary cares for these animals, and I left with a newfound appreciation for these endearing creatures.

This tour was a perfect blend of natural beauty, delicious food, and incredible wildlife encounters. It’s a must-do for anyone visiting Costa Rica, a day filled with unforgettable experiences and the kind of memories that stay with you long after the adventure ends.
