• Li River - Instead of using a bamboo raft on the Yulong River, enjoy a motorized raft on the most significant section of the Li River. This large raft, designed to resemble bamboo, comfortably seats four people. It’s best to embark on this rafting adventure in the morning, as large tour boats won’t appear until about an hour into the journey. The tranquil waters meander through towering karst formations that fade into the distant mist. Each turn reveals a more captivating view.
• Xingping Town - Wander through this historic fishing village, nestled among the karst hills on a bend of the peaceful Li River, which flows south from Guilin to Yangshuo. This is where the famous view on the 20 YUAN Note originated. It’s just a ten-minute walk along the river from the town.
• Guilin Laozhai Mountain - Located near the Xingping Ferry Dock, this hidden gem will leave you in awe after a brisk 30-minute hike to the top. The stunning views from the summit are a true reward. The panoramic vista of the rolling hills and Li River is simply breathtaking! Although entrance is free, the hill is not well-maintained, so be prepared for a challenging climb up the nearly 90-degree ladder.
• Xingping Fishing Village - To explore the opposite side of the river, take a 5-minute ferry from the waterfront. Hike along a paved riverside path through small farms, vegetable gardens, orchards, and hamlets, offering a picturesque and agricultural landscape. Continue walking to enter one of the top 10 Li River Hiking Routes - the Osmanthus Ancient Trail. This 800-meter trail features 108 osmanthus trees and provides another panoramic view of the Li River from a different perspective. This hidden gem is not easily discovered on your own.
• Tengjiao Temple - On the way to the Osmanthus Ancient Trail, take the left fork to visit one of Guilin’s best-preserved temples. Nestled under a rocky overhang and situated on the river’s edge, Tengjiao Nunnery is a Ming Dynasty temple. Behind the temple buildings, there is a spacious cave with an altar of figures.
