Hidden Gem of a Tour - This was hands down one of the best coffee tours I’ve ever experienced. I’ve done them in a few different countries, and this one really stood out. What made it special was that Tio Leo himself led the tour. You can tell immediately how much heart and soul he puts into his work. It's a family-run farm, and his passion and deep knowledge about coffee (and the whole process from bean to cup) is unmatched. But it wasn’t just about coffee. In just a short visit, we got to learn about and taste chocolate, press sugar cane, and even make our own empanada, which was such a fun touch. It felt like we packed a whole day’s worth of learning and tasting into just a couple of hours. The experience was incredibly personal and such a great value. I walked away not only with a better appreciation for coffee but also with a sense of connection to the land and culture behind it. Don’t miss this place. It’s a gem.

Everything was wonderful! - Travelled to several countries internationally and this is by far one of the best, most fun, and informative tours I’ve ever done. Got to learn all about chocolate, coffee, sugar cane, medicinal plants grown there, and even made empanadas. Got to try every element and they were all delicious! They even let us participate in an organize sugar chocolate body scrub on our arms which was made there and super fun. Tio Leo himself did the tour and he was wonderful. Mrs. Mirna who assisted with empanada class portion was a wonderful chef and even shared some recipes with us. Price was also way more affordable than the other coffee/chocolate tours available and it was much closer to our hotel in Playa Hermosa. Highly recommend!!

Best Costa Rican Experience - This was such an interactive and educational experience!! Tio Leo is very passionate about sharing his knowledge of his industry, and they made us feel like part of the family. During this tour, we learned about cultivating quality coffee, cacao, sugarcane, and there are so many other fruits that we were able to sample! We also learned how to make empanadas, tried fried plantains, and we tried a coffee scrub for the skin. I cannot recommend this experience enough! It was the highlight of my trip, and I would recommend anyone visiting Liberia, to go see Tio Leo! Thanks for a great experience!! -Allie & Deb

A real experience - Leo has a wonderful sense of humor and a wealth of knowledge of Costa Rica flora, not just about coffee. It’s an experience that we have taken various guests to several times. Highly recommend it

Coffee and much much more! - Leo is amazing. Great teacher. Super knowledgeable. Great communicator. Perfect English. His garden tour is the best, you will learn about coffee and see the plants but also see and learn about all other tropical fruits, vegetables and herbs. You will touch and smell many. He is an organic farmer and has a sustainable internal ecosystem. His assistant and cook will prepare loads of fresh tastes and make fresh empanadas over teak wood in the open kitchen. Loved many things and the fresh sugar cane press and drink. Hi coffee is organically grown and arabica bean. The best. The coffee is mind blowing and bring you back. Go see Uncle Leo!! Tio Leo PS Almost forgot about the coffee grounds exfoliating arm massage she gave us all. Nuts! Go!

Take this tour! - I don't normally write reviews, but I had to make an exception for this place. We wanted to take a half-day tour and found Tio Leo Coffee through an internet search and decided to book it a day in advance. I'm so glad we did. We had an amazing trip to Costa Rica, and this was one of our favorite things that we did. The tour was given by Tio Leo himself, who is friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any and all questions. Learning about coffee and cacao, as well as the other trees and plants for biodiversity, is incredibly interesting, but there's also the food! The lovely Mirna cooked up the empanadas we made, we drank hot chocolate and chocolate milk with freshly roasted cacao beans which we ground, we tried sugar cane juice which we pressed, and then there's the coffee! It's some of the best you'll ever drink. Do yourself a favor and take this tour. It's a great way to spend a few hours and you'll end up making some new Costa Rican friends.
