• Guatemala City - Guests will be picked up from their hotel in Guatemala City and driven through the city en route to the Sacatepequez department, where Antigua Guatemala City is situated. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours, so relax and make yourself comfortable. Feel free to ask the driver or tour guide for assistance if needed.
• The Plaza Central Park - In Antigua Guatemala, visitors will feel as though they have traveled back in time, with the majestic Water Volcano in the background, ancient cobblestone streets, and over 500 years of architectural history. The walking tour begins at the Central Park of the Plaza de Antigua Guatemala, the city’s center, surrounded by its most significant buildings.
• Antigua, Guatemala Cathedral - This Roman Catholic church in Antigua Guatemala was originally constructed around 1541 but has endured several earthquakes over the years. The initial structure was demolished in 1669, and the cathedral was rebuilt and consecrated in 1680. By 1743, it was one of the largest cathedrals in Central America. However, the catastrophic 1773 Guatemala earthquake caused severe damage, though the two front towers remained mostly intact. These have been restored, and the cathedral has been partially rebuilt.
• Real Palacio - The Palace of the General Captains, or Royal Palace, is a colonial building in Antigua Guatemala. It houses the offices of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism, the Guild of Tourism of Antigua, the National Civil Police, and the Departmental Government, among others.
• Arco de Santa Catalina - This saffron-yellow arch, standing above the cobblestone streets and in front of the imposing Volcán de Agua, has become a symbol of Antigua and is featured on most postcards.
• Iglesia de La Merced - This stunning yellow church is the finest example of Baroque Guatemalan architecture. Dating back to the 18th century, it is one of the most beautiful churches in Antigua Guatemala. It is surrounded by a lovely garden, handicraft vendors, and excellent cafes offering authentic “Antigüeño” coffee, known for its chocolate notes due to the roasting process.
• Santo Tomas Milpas Altas - Enjoy the breathtaking views of the avocado plantations on the sides of Antigua’s Valley. Participate in a locally guided tour to learn about the avocado production process. Have fun with park activities such as canopy tours and suspended wooden bridges. Conclude the visit by tasting avocado ice cream. The avocado farm tour is shared.
