Antigua Guatemala, once the third largest city in all of Spanish Colonial America and the capital of Guatemala for 200 years, is now a serene, beautiful, and partially restored colonial city. Its cobblestone streets meander through a city filled with majestic churches and monasteries.
- Iglesia de La Merced - The tour begins with a visit to the Church of La Merced, showcasing Guatemalan Ultrabaroque style, featuring two bell towers. On the church’s facade, a sculpture of San Pedro Nolasco, founder of the Mercedarian Order, is prominently displayed.
- Arco de Santa Catalina - The tour continues with a visit to the Arch of Santa Catalina, constructed to connect the nuns between cloisters, allowing them to remain unseen due to their vows. After the earthquakes of 1773, the arch gained significance due to the renovations made.
- Antigua Guatemala Central Park - Central Park is situated at the city’s heart, surrounded by the traditional grid pattern commonly used in Spanish colonial urban planning. The park is encircled by the Palace of the General Captains, the City Hall, the Church of San José (formerly the Cathedral of Guatemala), the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Portal of Commerce (or the Bakers’ Portal).
Visitors will also discover the beautiful Las Sirenas Fountain. Built by the Count of Gomera (Gomera refers to a rubber plantation), the fountain commemorates a popular legend about a king whose daughters gave birth but refused to nurse their children. Learn about this famous story while exploring the legendary colonial city.
- Tanque de la Union - La Unión tank is one of the city’s most iconic laundries. Only large houses had private washing facilities, so most residents - particularly housewives - used public laundries. It was inaugurated on February 3, 1853.
- Santa Teresita Hotel & Spa Termal - At the tour’s conclusion, guests will be transferred to Santa Teresita Hot Springs for a delightful lunch (included).
Spend the afternoon relaxing in the hot springs. Kawilal is a haven of relaxation, where the essential elements of nature converge in this unique hot springs location. The environment combines fire and heat from the Pacaya Volcano, providing thermal waters and steam. The complex promotes sustainable tourism and features 12 thermal pools, a thermal circuit, 25 steam baths, and 3 hydrotherapy baths.
Kawilal SPA offers relaxing massages, reflexology, Shiatsu relaxation, manicures, pedicures, and more.
- Gray Line Guatemala - At the end of the visit, guests will be transferred back to Guatemala City via Antigua Guatemala.
