DAY AT ANTIGUA
Antigua - At 8:00 a.m., guests will be collected from their hotel in Guatemala City and transported to Antigua Guatemala, the country’s most significant and enchanting colonial city. Established by the Spanish in 1543, Antigua is now a stunning mix of ruins, restored colonial architecture, and new buildings designed in colonial style. It was designated a “Monument of the Americas” in 1965. Visitors will explore the Central Plaza, encircled by the old Cathedral, the City Hall, and the Palace of the Captains General, along with monasteries, colonial churches, and a jade factory where exquisite jewelry is crafted from jade. In the afternoon, guests will be transferred to Chichicastenango for an overnight stay.
DAY AT CHICHICASTENANGO
Chichicastenango - Today is market day in Chichicastenango! Visitors will explore the largest and most vibrant open-air indigenous market in Guatemala. Hundreds of indigenous people come from nearby villages to sell and trade their goods. There will also be an opportunity to observe religious ceremonies conducted in and around the Church of Santo Tomás, which is over 400 years old (shorts, swimsuits, and any type of photography inside the church are strictly prohibited).
Afterwards, the journey continues to Lake Atitlán, one of the world’s most beautiful lakes and one of Guatemala’s renowned natural wonders. Atitlán is the perfect place to experience Guatemalan folklore firsthand. Twelve indigenous villages surround the lake, and their residents are descendants of the K’iche’, Kaqchikel, and Tz’utujil Maya groups.
In the afternoon, guests will be transferred back to Guatemala City for an overnight stay. End of services.
