Pureun-gil Park - Pureungil Park was established on a former railway line that once linked the Gyeongsang and Jeolla provinces, playing a significant role in Korea’s industrial and regional development. As the tracks passed through downtown Gwangju, they led to noise, pollution, and safety issues. Following years of public advocacy, the railway was relocated, and the disused tracks were converted into this serene, green urban park.
Today, Pureungil Park is more than just a walking trail — it stands as a testament to community initiative. Local residents were involved in planning, constructing, and now maintaining the park. It connects forests, neighborhoods, and people, providing a tranquil retreat in the city’s heart.
Let’s enjoy the park while keeping it clean! -
Dongmyeong-dong Cafe Street - Once a thriving neighborhood, Dongmyeong-dong has been rejuvenated with delightful cafés, restaurants, and cultural venues created from refurbished old houses. Since the Asia Culture Center opened in 2015, it has gained popularity among young people, giving the area a distinctive and lively atmosphere.
After the park cleanup, let’s savor a delicious meal and coffee in this area. There will also be an opportunity to engage with residents about animal care and fostering a community where people and animals coexist harmoniously. -
Dong-gu - Dong-gu district is the cultural and historical core of Gwangju, featuring major attractions like the Asia Culture Center, May 18 Archives, May 18 Democracy Square, Dongmyeong-dong Café Street, and trails to Mudeungsan. It offers a diverse blend of culture, history, nature, and local life — all within walking distance.
After the tour, you can enjoy free time to continue exploring Dong-gu at your own pace. We can recommend a few highlights, but the choice is yours. Enjoy your time discovering the charm of Dong-gu!
