Bulguksa - Bulguksa is a prominent temple from the Silla Dynasty, established in 751 (the 10th year of King Gyeongdeok’s reign) by Kim Dae-seong. However, according to the “Bulguksa Gogeumchanggi,” it is noted that “the year after Ichadon was martyred, in 528 (the 15th year of King Beopheung’s reign), King Beopheung’s mother, Lady Yeongje, and Lady Giyun founded this temple and became nuns.” Bulguksa represents the Buddhist paradise that the Silla people aspired to, an ideal world of peace. The Silla people’s yearning for this Buddhist land is depicted in three aspects: the Saha world of Sakyamuni Buddha based on the Lotus Sutra, the Paradise of Amitabha Buddha based on the Infinite Life Sutra, and the Lotus World of Vairocana Buddha based on the Avatamsaka Sutra. These three are uniquely expressed through the overall layout of sections centered on the Daeungjeon, Geungnakjeon, and Birojeon.

Daereungwon Tomb Complex - The Silla tombs located in the Daereungwon area of Gyeongju are a representative burial site of Silla, consisting of the tombs of Silla kings and nobles from the early Silla period. The tombs are constructed in the stone mound style, which makes them difficult to loot, and as a result, most remain unlooted. Excavations have been conducted since the Japanese colonial period, uncovering numerous artifacts such as gold crowns, large vessels, and various pottery and household items, providing crucial insights into early Silla culture.

Cheonmachong Tomb - Cheonmachong is a tomb in Gyeongju, tentatively believed to be the resting place of King Jijeung, one of the 21st or 22nd kings of Silla. It measures 47m in diameter and 12.7m in height, and was excavated in 1973, revealing 11,297 burial items, including the Cheonmado (National Treasure No. 207), a gold crown (National Treasure No. 188), and a gold hat (National Treasure No. 189). Among the relics, a painting of a pure white Cheonmado flying into the sky made of birch bark was discovered, giving the tomb its name. Additionally, paintings of a Western king and a horseman were also found. It is currently located in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do (within Daereungwon), and the interior of the tomb has been restored and is open to the public. Visitors can step into the tomb from 2,000 years ago and imagine the elegance of the Silla Dynasty and the lives of its kings.

Woljeonggyo Bridge - Woljeonggyo is a wooden bridge constructed during the Unified Silla period in the capital city of Seorabeol. Built over the Namcheon River in Gyeongju, it connected Gyeongju Wolseong, the palace where the king resided, with the Namsan area and Dodangseong Fortress (an earthen fortress on the opposite hill). Woljeonggyo was first recorded in the Samguk Sagi as being constructed in the 19th year of King Gyeongdeok’s reign (760). It served as a transportation route in Seorabeol. The original name, Woljeonggyo, used the character for “clean,” but during the Goryeo period, it was changed to the character for “decide,” and this name has persisted to the present day. The bridge was completed in 2013, and the full restoration of the structure was finished in 2018. Through Woljeonggyo, one can glimpse the artistry and architectural skills of the Silla people.
